Brock Washington Not Charged in Sexual Assault Case
The Michigan Attorney General's office announced that former Michigan State Spartans basketball player Brock Washington will not face charges related to a sexual assault accusation from January. Following a thorough examination of the evidence, the decision was made not to pursue legal action against Washington, who was previously suspended from the team. This conclusion follows an earlier decision by the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office not to file charges as well.
In August, Michigan State's Office of Institutional Equity found that Washington had violated the university's sexual misconduct policy, recommending a two-year ban from campus and classes. Allegations stated he engaged in sexual acts without consent while the woman was incapacitated. Washington's attorney expressed frustration over the handling of the case but welcomed the university's decision to hear their appeal regarding the findings. Although Washington is no longer enrolled, he seeks to clear his name, stating that the situation negatively impacted his experience at Michigan State.
